WHAT IS THE STEM?

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) (Original name: STEM, "Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics"), an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Although this standard, which is called STEM in the United States, has become widespread as the integration of mathematics and science courses at the school level, it is also understood as the teaching of engineering and technology with in-class and out-of-classroom activities [1] [2]. An example is the addition of the nature of engineering and engineering to the American science education standards (Next Generation Science Standards), and the addition of mathematical modeling to the Common Core mathematics curriculum. Although, in the US context, STEM aims to meet and strengthen the need for manpower for economic progress and leadership, but it is also argued that it can be used as a tool to ensure equality of opportunity in social peace and education.

Fen, teknoloji, mühendislik ve matematik (FeTeMM) (Özgün adı: STEM, "Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics"), fen bilimleri, teknoloji, mühendislik ve matematik sözcüklerinin baş harflerinden oluşan kısaltma. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde STEM olarak adlandırılan bu standart, okul düzeyinde matematik ve fen bilimleri derslerinin bütünleştirilmesi olarak yaygınlaşmış olsa da mühendislik ve teknolojinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı etkinlikler ile öğretilmesi olarak da anlaşılmaktadır^[1][2]. Örnek olarak, Amerikalı fen eğitimi standartlarına (Next Generation Science Standards) mühendislik ve mühendisliğin doğasının ve ortak çekirdek (Common Core) matematik müfredatına ise matematiksel modellemenin eklenmesi gösterilebilir. Her ne kadar ABD bağlamında STEM, ekonomik anlamda ilerleme ve liderlik için insangücü ihtiyacını karşılamayı ve güçlendirmeyi hedeflese de toplumsal barış ve eğitimde fırsat eşitliğini sağlamada bir araç olarak da kullanılabileceği savunulmaktadır.
